The Salesian Order of Catholic priests and brothers were invited into Swaziland by the Bishop of Manzini back in 1953. Coming from a wide range of countries, the Salesians were at their maximum numbers of over 20 young men in the 1970s and today represent 5 different nationalities with a mixture of African and European Fathers and Brothers in residence.

The Salesians in Swaziland have been involved in a wide range of activities ranging from establishment and management of the Salesian schools through to catechetical supervision and establishment of its largest project, Manzini Youth Care.

For more than 20 years Manzini Youth Care in Swaziland has provided support and care for homeless and marginalised youth who would otherwise be on the streets. Based on the guiding principals of the Salesians, MYC's holistic approach provides the basics of food, shelter, clothing and medical treatment, and also encompasses education, skills training, moral and spiritual development and assistance with job placement or self-employment.
